In the forest villages of the Western Ghats in Coimbatore, tribals are dying due to snake bites as they have no toilets
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan scheme appears to have stopped at the foothills of the Western Ghats at Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. While the scheme itself has not reached many tribal villages nestled in the forests, in some, toilets which have been constructed are awaiting inauguration!
As a result, open defaecation is the norm amongst these tribes and snake bites, scorpion stings and wild elephant attacks are common.
The Lede travelled to these forest villages and spoke to tribals about this major issue.
