A phone call to his wife on Thursday evening and death by a suicide bombing attack later that night
He spoke to his young wife Krishnaveni at around 2.30 pm on Thursday. By nightfall, his phone was switched off, leaving his family wondering what had happened.
The dreaded call came from his friend – 28-year-old CRPF jawan Subramanian was killed in the Pulwama suicide bombing which took another 39 lives in Kashmir.
G Subramanian was a native of Savalaperi village near Kovilpatti in Tuticorin district, Tamil Nadu. He had married Krishnaveni a year and a half ago. He had no children.

He studied ITI five years ago and joined the CRPF. He was trained for two years in Uttar Pradesh and worked in Chennai and then headed to Kashmir. Subramanian was part of the 82nd Battalion and was a Constable on General Duty with the CRPF.

His distraught father Ganapathy told reporters – “He had come home on vacation for Pongal (harvest festival in January) and left only last Sunday. Now he is no more. The family runs on his earnings.”
The family is mourning his passing. The CRPF is yet to officially contact them.
